Driveway Expansion with Retaining Wall Built to Hold Grade

A tight driveway is one of those things you just learn to live with - until you don't have to anymore. That was the situation here. The driveway needed more room, but the grade alongside it wasn't going anywhere on its own. So we expanded the driveway and built a retaining wall to hold everything in place.

The wall does two jobs at once. It keeps the soil and landscaping from creeping onto the new driveway surface, and it gives the whole area a clean, finished edge. Without it, you're just pushing the problem down the road. The grade would settle, the edges would erode, and you'd lose whatever space you gained. That's not how we build things.

What we used here are concrete segmental retaining wall blocks - heavy, interlocking, and built to handle the lateral pressure of a sloped grade. They step down with the natural contour of the yard, which keeps the wall structurally sound while keeping it looking intentional rather than slapped together. That detail matters more than most people realize.

The end result is a driveway that actually works. There's real room to maneuver, the landscaping stays where it belongs, and nothing looks out of place. Retaining wall installation done right isn't just about holding dirt back - it's about making the whole property function better and look like it was always meant to be that way.
